Cassette Audio Books
Cassette audio books are the original format which made
these recorded texts popular. Originally, they provided the benefit
of allowing listeners to stop and restart in the exact location. This
rendered them more preferable than CDs when that option first arose.
However CD players eventually developed resume play capabilities. Of
course, cassette audio books could be removed and reinserted into a
completely different player while remaining in place. It was primarily
when CD players became the standard option within cars that they overtook
cassette tape popularity.
Cassette audio books are often called "books on tape." This
phrase is actually a trademark. It was developed by the Books on Tape
Corporation.
