Books On Tape
Books on Tape is a term used in reference to audio books.
However, it is actually a trademark for the Books on Tape Corporation.
This company arose in 1970.
A trademark is a brand name for a product. The phrase "Books on
Tape" has become similar to that of Band-Aid. While each refers
to a company's specific products, the phrases have been more widespread
at times than the general term for their products ("audio books"
and "adhesive bandages" respectively.)
Today, there is not as big of an issue with the Books on Tape trademark
as there used to be. This is because "tape" is more appropriate
for use with cassettes. However, cassette tapes are no longer the most
popular audio book option. Instead, CDs and digital formats have taken
over the market.
