The best audio books will vary from listener to listener. For some people, the importance should be placed on entertainment. For others, how educational the product is will be of primary concern.

The best audio books by scale of entertainment are commonly judged by who does the reading. Many celebrities have provided narrations, such as Madonna, Jeremy Irons, Tim Curry, and Morgan Freeman. Some will be presented with multiple voices for the cast as well as sound effects.

When the best audio books are being judged by how educational they are, quality of information and its presentation both play a vital role. A recording may be well-organized, and easy to understand, but if the subject it covers is useless it may not be ideal. At the same time, an audio book may include important facts but be hard to follow. This would make it very unsuccessful.
