Classic Audio Books

Here at audiobookclassics.com, we recognize that audio books are an important part of today’s literature and how it is received by the world. We try to stay on top of all the changes and advancements in audio books in all their forms and share our information with you.

One of the best things about audio books is that you can get any type of book in an audio form. Over the last couple decades, audio books have taken huge leaps in technology, making them even easier to use and giving people the ability to take them more places.

Originally, “talking books” were part of a program to help bring more and better literature to individuals who were visually challenged. The Pratt-Smoot Act of 1931 was signed by President Herbert Hoover, and it made Braille books available to blind people. This was a big step forward for disabled persons, but it soon became apparent that embossed books weren’t very useful for older people who were losing their tactile senses.

To remedy this issue, the American Foundation for the Blind developed the first audio books with additional funding given to them.

Since then, the world of audio books has grown exponentially. Even if something isn’t technically a “book,” such as a Spanish audio book designed to help someone learn this language, it still falls under the category of an audio book.

Books on tape were the most common form of audio books for a long time. The trouble with cassette tapes was that they couldn’t hold a lot of information, so it took quite a few of them to hold one book. They were also sensitive to heat.

Audio books CDs began to take over the market once they became easy to manufacture and inexpensive to buy.  They could hold more information than a tape, and took up less room, making them easier to carry with a person. They are also more resistant to heat. They have become a common item among teaching supplies in schools.

While CDs are still a popular option for many people, digital audio books are rapidly rising to the top of the popularity scale. Digital audio books are the most convenient way to carry your audio books with you. Many devices now can carry audio books and do other things as well. You can download an audio book directly to your computer, and many MP3 players can download them as well.

No matter what kind of books you are looking for, you can find them in an audio book format. They are a great way to pass a long flight, and many people use them during their commute to learn and make the time more enjoyable.

Classic audio books are always popular, and playing children’s audio books in the car can help keep them calm and entertained. Fiction audio books are probably the most popular kind due to their entertainment value, but history audio books and business audio books are very popular for students and business owners.

Audio book rentals have become a popular way for people to listen to many different books without having to buy them all. You can check out some audio books at libraries, and there are some businesses that specialize in renting audio books to people. Almost any type of audio book can be rented, whether it is fiction, business, or a Christian audio book. The list is quite extensive.

While you may be daunted by the price of a brand new audio book, you can get some of the best audio books very inexpensively. If you look at yard sales or library sales, you can probably find some cheap audio books. Sometimes these are sold because the packaging is damaged, but there is nothing wrong with the media itself. Used book stores may also have a good selection available.
